With the rising cost of health care, it's no surprise more firms are seeking ways to improve employee fitness, encourage healthy habits, and promote preventative care for staff. These measures may include regular blood pressure and diabetes screenings, weight loss and smoking cessation programs, or onsite fitness challenges similar to JCSI’s Biggest Loser competition (spotlighted here).
Although information varies as to the actual amount of the return on investment (ROI) of healthy initiatives at the workplace, there is no debate that these measures have a positive impact on employee wellness. The standard thinking is that healthier employees reduce health care costs, take less sick days, are more productive, and make for a healthier company culture overall—a major win for everyone involved.
